Sometimes I really hate having irritable bowel syndrome.

I was diagnosed when I was only 10 years old. I remember having to leave school halfway through the morning some days because I’d get sick after getting off the bus. My mom has Crohn’s disease and had already been diagnosed back then, so she was always worried that I would develop the disorder as well. It was like a wave of calmness washed over my brain first and then my body second. I was absolutely amazed at how effective the plant was at curing my IBS symptoms. Nowadays I use cannabis regularly to treat my physical and mental health problems. However, I haven’t had as much luck with cannabis edibles because of my acidic stomach. I don’t know if having IBS makes my stomach more acidic, but I know that THC seems to break down whenever I try to eat it. And I recently discovered that I’m not the only person who experiences this.

When you’re used to living in states with progressive laws, it can be frustrating finding yourself in a new place with too many restrictions. I can’t even hook my home’s electrical grid up to solar panels because the energy lobby got the state legislature to make it illegal. There really isn’t much of a middle ground for me when it comes to any sort of emotional response.

This is just the way I’m built. It’s not a great way to live. After years and years of unsatisfying efforts, medical cannabis is showing me a light I didn’t think that I could ever see. I’m still under a doctors care but I’m off the other meds and only using the medical cannabis. The results six months in are better than I could have dreamed. I feel like a whole person for the first time maybe ever. And I’m so very thankful for the fact that medical marijuana is legal in my state.

This isn’t because I have some sort of memory loss or anything like that. But I have suffered with an eating disorder for more than a decade. I have been thinking about it for a while now, but I really am having a hard time deciding whether or not I should order my cannabis products online.

I’m surprised, but I’m also proud of her.
